Made of thin-walled bone china at the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg, this coffee cup, saucer, and dessert plate carry Scheherazade, a pattern from the Ballet series. It is applied as an overglaze decal with 22-karat gold trim, and the cup is finished with a smooth glazed rim.
The May-shape cup holds 165 ml (5.6 fl oz) and stands 7.7 cm (3 in) tall, and the saucer is 12.1 cm (4.8 in) across. Capacity is measured to the brim, so count on roughly 10–15% less. Bone china has a natural milky tone, which may look a little different on screen.
Lyubov Tsvetkova (b. 1962), the author of the pattern, has worked as a porcelain painter and sculptor at the Imperial Porcelain Factory since 1994. The shape comes from Eduard Krimmer (1900–1974), Honored Artist of the RSFSR and a student of Kazimir Malevich; the first shape cast in bone china was his May cup.
To keep the gold bright, wash the set by hand using a liquid detergent and a soft sponge. It is not dishwasher or microwave safe.
