Vases are where the factory’s decorators get room to work — larger surfaces and fewer constraints from the form. Many shapes are historic models still cast from the original moulds, so a vase bought today can be the same object an artist designed a century ago. Unlike most of the tableware, vases tend to be hard-paste porcelain rather than bone china: heavier, more opaque, better at standing on their own.
