The Leningrad shape, designed by Eduard Krimmer, is decorated here with Anna Yatskevich’s Cobalt Net. The mug and saucer are hard-paste porcelain made at the Imperial Porcelain Factory. The pattern is an underglaze decal, finished by painting in 22-karat gold.
The mug holds 360 ml (12.2 fl oz) and is 12.5 cm (4.9 in) long, 9.6 cm (3.8 in) wide, and 9.5 cm (3.7 in) tall. Its saucer is 16 cm (6.3 in) across and 2.5 cm (1 in) high.
Krimmer (1900–1974), Honored Artist of the RSFSR, studied under Kazimir Malevich, joined the factory in 1950, and designed the Leningrad shape. Yatskevich (1904–1952) painted porcelain at the factory from 1932 to 1952; her painting of a Cobalt Net tea service won a gold medal at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair.
