This covered butter dish, on the Rectangular shape, is hard-paste porcelain from the Imperial Porcelain Factory. Cobalt Net is applied as an underglaze decal, and gold painting completes the piece.
The lid is included. The dish measures 17.2 × 15.5 cm (6.8 × 6.1 in) and is 10 cm (3.9 in) tall.
Anna Leporskaya (1900–1982), who designed the shape, was a painter, graphic artist, and porcelain sculptor, an Honored Artist of the RSFSR, and a student of Kazimir Malevich. From 1948 until 1982 she worked in the factory’s art laboratory on tableware, vases, and other production pieces. Cobalt Net is by Anna Yatskevich (1904–1952), who worked at the factory as a porcelain painter from 1932 to 1952. Her Cobalt Net tea set won a gold medal at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair, and her work is held by the Hermitage and the State Russian Museum.
