The set combines a teacup and saucer with a dessert plate, all on the Tulip shape and all in classic hard-paste porcelain from the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg. Cobalt Net is painted by hand under and over the glaze, with gold. The cup’s rim is unglazed and ground smooth. The factory has offered this design since 1951.
Filled to the top, the cup takes 250 ml (8.5 fl oz); allow 10–15% less for everyday pouring. It measures 12.2 × 10.3 cm (4.8 × 4.1 in) and stands 5.8 cm (2.3 in) tall, and the saucer is 15 cm (5.9 in) across. Hard-paste porcelain has a slightly gray tone.
The sculptor Serafima Yakovleva, an Honored Artist of the RSFSR, designed the shape and worked at the factory from 1935 to 1987. The pattern comes from Anna Yatskevich, a porcelain painter there from 1932 to 1952, who received the Order of the Red Star in 1944.
The gold calls for washing by hand, using a mild liquid detergent and a soft sponge, since a dishwasher may dull or wear the gilding over time. Not for the microwave.
